Fallen Princesses
Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at 01:09AM Is there such a thing as happily ever after? According to photographer, Dina Goldstein, the Disney notion of happily ever after needs a little reality check. Her series, Fallen Pricesses, shows fairy tale pricesses in real situations that women are faced with. Repunzel is dealing with cancer, an elderly prince is waiting for Sleeping Beauty to awaken, and Belle has self-image issues.
I think this series was intended to put me off of the idea of Disney pricesses, but in a lot of ways it made me see the need for them even more. Thoughts?

Preface: It's possible this comment is fueled by early morning ineptitude. If after reading, you find that's the case...just carry on without me :)
I'm wondering if Goldstein's intention might be to 'round out' our perception of the princess concept (revealing this ideal not to be one of indelible perfection) and she used Disney characters because they are (for the most part) universally recognizable.
