Cardon Copy
Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 03:38AM Cardon Copy is an ongoing endeavor to show the power of good design and to beautify the streets. Designer Cardon Webb "hijacks" handmade fliers from the streets, redesigns them and replaces the originals with his upgrades.
Brilliant idea, that deserves to become a movement. I'm adding this to my To Do list. (Found through Sub-Studio).

I enjoy the design, though I can't help but wonder if it's actually better than the original as the post implies.
The new design clearly has higher production value and conveys a stronger association with the subject matter (the cat missing a face is pretty clever), but I look at this and don't feel like it came from a person. That factor alone might be enough for someone to dismiss it as some clever marketing ad or, worse yet, not notice it at all.
That being said, I applaud the intent of the designer, the initiative as a whole is an interesting take on community service. Maybe if there was some way to involve the original poster in the design process?
Good point. The original sketches do convey a sense of urgency, casualness and raw emotion that the designed versions do not. Just like a rough sketch denotes a rough idea.
Specific examples aside, this project make me think of how effective design is as a sales tool. Having design on your side helps to make your points heard, grab attention, and show your dedication to an idea.
I can't get enough of guerrilla design efforts.
